The competitiveness and future of the Government as Employer

The capability of the Government to function and provide services well requires that the Government is a competitive employer in the tightening competition for labour force. In order to attain competent personnel the Government tends to its image as employer by increasing the attractivity of its tasks and assignments by modifying its salary systems into more encouraging forms, by investing in a positive working atmosphere and by increasing the personnel’s development possibilities.

The Office for the Government as Employer observes the general image of the Government as employer. It also strives to communicate more efficiently about the on-going cultural change in operations in co-operations with its operational units.

The Office for the Government as Employer carries out different measures aimed at young people. The measures and steps put into practice aim to present and make known the different work opportunities the Government has to offer. Rectruitment events and expositions organised by universities and colleges, recruitment videos and brochures and the website Valtiolle.fi are among the most visible steps taken. Agencies are welcome to join in this acitivity.

Internships in departments and agencies is a practical way to acquaint young people with the versatile work assignments and the working environment of the Government. The Office for the Government as Employer encourages departments and agencies to take good care of the reception, familiarisation and guidance of interns, so that the generated image will be positive and ensure the Government’s attractiveness as a future employer.
