Economic prospects

The Ministry of Finance monitors economic developments and forecasts and assesses economic development in Finland and elsewhere, EU countries in particular.

The Ministry produces surveys and forecasts analysing economic trends for the Ministry and the Government and to aid international cooperation. These surveys contain information on issues such as international economy, foreign trade, production, employment, costs and prices and general government finances.

The main purpose of producing forecasts is to provide material for the drafting of economic policy, and especially the formulation of the annual Budget and medium-term budgeting according to spending limits.

Forecasts

The Economics Department at the Ministry of Finance publishes economic forecasts four times a year. The spring and autumn projections are presented in Economic Survey publications and the summer and winter ones in Economic Bulletins.

Economic Surveys provide a broader and more detailed analysis of the existing economic situation and outlook. The Economic Survey published in the spring is used as background material in formulating the spending limits decisions while that published in the autumn is an appendix to the budget proposal. Economic Surveys are translated into English and the autumn publication is also translated into Swedish.

Economic Bulletins are published twice a year. They examine the current economic situation and outlook for the immediate future, and monitor forecast outcomes. Economic Bulletins are also published in Swedish and English.
