Summary

The Ministry of Finance set up a working group on 25 May 2010 for preparing to concentrate and
relocate the production of statistics on the environment, natural resources and energy. The mandate terminated on 30 April 2011.

The working group?s mandate was to:

1.     continue to enhance statistics by building on the work of an earlier auxiliary working group,
2.     evaluate and, where necessary, make proposals for developing, enhancing, concentrating and relocating these statistics, and
3.     assess and make proposals to generate these statistics from relevant clusters of expertise.

The working group´s view is that the authorities? division of labour in the subject areas that were examined operates sufficiently well and no changes are therefore proposed. However, collaboration between authorities should be strengthened and enhanced by devising networks of collaboration. The working group evaluated the clusters of expertise for the production of statistics and believes that metropolitan Helsinki offers the best operational potential for statistical activities. The working group does not propose relocation.on.
