Reform Project for State Regional Administration, Interim Report

Summary

Mari Kiviniemi, Minister of Public Administration and Local Government, appointed a project to reform State regional administration on 29 June 2007. The project?s term is from 29 June 2007 to 31 March 2009. It includes a steering group with political representation and preparatory group. The aim is to revamp State regional administration so that it is citizenfriendly, customer-friendly, efficient and productive. The reforms will be implemented by 2010.

One of the tasks for the project was to publish an interim report by 31 March 2008 on how to implement the set targets. The report consists of proposals for new authorities in State regional administration including their overall functions, recommendations to transfer functions from central administration to State regional and local administrative authorities, proposed changes in regional divisions and other outlines on measures to implement the reforms in administrative structures.
