The Final Report of the Steering Group Preparing the Development of Local Government Statistic, 24/2012

Summary

The Ministry of Finance established a steering group to prepare the development of local government statistics. The steering group’s term of office was 20 August 2010 – 31 May 2012. The aim was to develop local government statistics according to proposals of a sub-working group on regional and local information management as well as the practical implementation of proposed measures. For further work, the steering group has drawn up a development plan and proposes that the development programme prepared by the steering group for local government financial and operational information, statistical services and information management be initiated according to the proposed timetable.

With the aid of the programme, the objective is to improve the quality and usability of information describing local government finances and operations, as well as to boost the productivity of the production, processing and dissemination of information describing local government finances, particularly in municipalities and joint municipal authorities. The steering group proposes that the Ministry of Finance be the body responsible for the development programme and that the programme be implemented during the period 1 September 2012 – 30 June 2019.
