Economic Policy Strategy 2007

Summary

The government aims for higher economic growth than is in the forecasts. Yearly growth of 3.5 per cent is needed in order to achieve the aims of the government programme.

The goal is demanding because it means that the structural unemployment has to fall. Currently there are already some signs of labour shortages and during this electoral cycle ageing starts to shrink the labour force. Also the decisions taken by the European Council on energy and climate policy further enhance the existing economic challenges.

This report focuses on structural unemployment and labour supply. We also study the economic issues related to energy and climate policies. Special attention is paid on the potential impact of the EU energy and climate decisions on the Finnish economy.
