Free-text search
A free-text search will search the entire contents of the website using all the words entered in the search field. Enter one or more words separated by spaces in the free-text field. A space functions as an AND operator, meaning all the words entered must be present in a document for it to be retrieved.
You can also search for part of a word. Use an asterisk (*) without a space to truncate a word. For example, a search using minist* will find the words minister, ministry, ministries, ministerial, and so on.
The search results are always shown in order of relevance beginning with those of highest relevance. The search results cannot be sorted by date, for example. The search will always retrieve results in the language of the search. English material will not be accessed in a search using a Finnish word, for example.
Advanced Search
There are four ways of conducting an advanced search. In all cases, a search word can be truncated using an asterisk (*).
In an advanced search, 25 hits per page will be shown. You can also specify the date, subject or type of material to further limit an advanced search.
Limited Searches
There are three ways of conducting a limited search on our website; these can be found on the ‘Advanced Search’ page or on the front page for the type of material concerned:
These searches will be limited to the material concerned.
A-Ö index
The contents of the website has been indexed alphabetically by subject. You can browse the index by subject.
