Finnish Customs collects statutory duties, taxes and charges on imported goods and maritime traffic and supervises customs control on traffic in and out of Finland.
The Government Institute for Economic Research (VATT) is an applied economic research unit producing research data in support of economic policy decisions and discussion of alternative courses of action.
Statistics Finland is a central administrative agency whose duties include the compiling and publishing of statistics on Finnish society, supervising and developing work in the field of statistics and contributing to statistical work at EU level.
The Tax Administration attends to taxation within its own purview. The Tax Administration collects approximately two-thirds of all taxes and tax-like payments in Finland.
The Treasury is a multiple service bureau run on the principles of management by results. Its responsibilities include intra-government financial administration, insurance, military injuries and other veteran affairs, and development of steering systems for central government agencies.
The Population Register Centre is the central authority for population registration in Finland. It develops and directs population registration in the country and maintains the national population information system together with Register Offices. The Population Register Centre is also responsible for the national information and online services of the population information system. In addition, the Population Register Centre attends to the following matters: certificate services, chip ID cards, the register of eligible voters, the public sector contact directory (JULHA), and the guardianship register.
The Population Register Centre, which comes under the Ministry of Finance, was established in 1969.
Regional State Administrative Agencies (AVI) started operating on 1 January 2010.
Shared service centre for financial administration and human resources management started operating on 1 January 2010.
Register offices are part of local State administration. They handle matters related to various administrative sectors. In their jurisdictional region, register offices are responsible for the population information system, guardianship matters, the Trade Register and the Register of Associations and the National Boat Register.
