Senior management at the Ministry

Overall leadership at the Ministry is the responsibility of the Minister of Finance, Ms Jutta Urpilainen.

The Ministry also has another minister, Ms Henna Virkkunen, who is Minister of Public Administration and Local Government and handles matters covered by the Department for Local Government and Regional Administration, the Personnel and Governance Policy Department, the Public Sector ICT operational unit and the Government financial controller's operational unit as well as matters related to customs.

Minister of Economic Affairs Jan Vapaavuori is responsible for matters covered by the Financial Markets Department, but not matters related to government borrowing and debt management, nor those related to international financial institutions, with the exception of the European Investment Bank and Nordic Investment Bank.

Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb handles issues related to the Budget Council of the EU.

The highest civil servant at the Ministry is the Permanent Secretary, Mr Martti Hetemäki. He is assisted in his work by the Permanent Under-Secretary and Director of Administrative Governance and Development, Ms Helena Tarkka.

The Permanent Secretary, the Permanent Under-Secretary and the Director of Administrative Governance and Development also contribute to the steering and supervision of government agencies, unincorporated State enterprises, government funds and State-owned joint-stock companies under the purview of the Ministry's branch of government as outlined by the Minister of Finance.

Each department is led by a Director General.
